Prayer and Faith-sharing Opportunities

The following opportunities are available through St. Francis to gather and share in faith and fellowship:

Labyrinth Walk

The labyrinth is set up in the Narthex on the second Thursday of each month.

Walking the labyrinth is a prayer in motion — an ancient practice that becomes a metaphor for your spiritual journey. Open yourself: everything around you can instruct and inform you. Let the spirit be your guide.

I will instruct you and show you the way you should walk.- Psalm 27:11

Silent meditation leads to a deeper experience and allows each traveler to listen to his or her own spirit. You may find that quietly asking in prayer for a word (such as peace), phrase, or event to question will help to guide your experience along the way.

One walks a labyrinth by stepping into the entrance and putting one foot in front of the other. It is a narrow, two-way path; if you come across a traveler moving at a different pace, please pass or step aside to allow others to continue their journey. After reaching the center, the walker returns out to cover the same path out as in.

Solvitur ambulando. [It is solved by walking.]St. Augustine

Some of the earliest forms of labyrinths are found in Greece, dating back to 2500-2000 B.C.E. This labyrinth is a replica of one laid into the cathedral floor at Chartres, France in the thirteenth century. The Chartres design is a classical eleven-circuit labyrinth (eleven concentric circles) with the twelfth being in the center of the labyrinth.

St. Francis Men's Prayer Group

Are you interested in sharing your experience as a Catholic Christian man with other like individuals?

On the first Monday of the month, the Men's Prayer Group meets in the Chapel from 6:30 to 7:30pm for prayer.

On the third Monday of the month, a member hosts the group in his house from 7:30 to 8:30pm to discuss a particular topic or idea, such as Bible study, different prayer forms, or current events.

You do not have to be "deeply spiritual" or knowledgeable about the faith or the Bible — only have the desire to learn and be willing to share your own experiences, opinions, and ideas. All members come from different backgrounds, occupations, and experiences, but all share the desire to grow in our faith and understanding.

For more information, please call Rich Ruh at 765-284-3954.
