About the Fr. Beiting Appalachian Mission Center
Fr. Beiting Appalachian Mission Center in Louisa, KY is an outreach of the Diocese of Lexington, KY. During the week, we will be…
Working Hard. Work projects are assigned to the groups based on skill levels. Typical assignments are small home repair including floors, windows, roofs, decks, etc. Groups may also help with the Center’s thrift store, warehouse, office assistance, outdoor/yard work, or painting.
Praying Together. With the Fr. Beiting Appalachian Mission Center we will have the opportunity for daily Mass, Eucharistic adoration, reconciliation, daily prayer/reflections, and evangelization by working side by side with area residents when possible.
Getting to Know the Community. Volunteers will have regular opportunities to get to know the families they are building/working for throughout the week. At the end of the week, the Mission Center hosts a social gathering of all volunteers and families they serve with a local cultural flair.
The Mission Center includes dormitory-style sleeping arrangements separated for men and women, with shared dining area and common areas.
The cost for the Appalachian Spring Break Mission is $150 per student. Each student should be able to fundraise most of this cost through letter writing to family, friends, home parishes or businesses in their hometown and we will be working on fundraising letters together as a team. Those who do not make their fundraising goal will be asked to front the remaining cost.
Additionally, students will be asked to help with the annual Pancake Breakfast in January, to help defray additional costs. All of these funds will cover 2 mini van rentals, over 700mi in gas, travel meals and food for the week, and the Mission Center program fee.
