2nd Year Missionary
Hello, my name is Taylor Caputo and I was born to Robb Mary Jean in Streator, Illinois. I grew up in the country outside of town with a younger brother and two younger sisters. Whenever we stirred up trouble in the house we were told to go outside, so I ended up just stirring up trouble there instead. But, it has helped me develop a liking for the outdoors, especially when it involves competition. One of my gifts is bags, and I am usually up for a game.
After high school I went to Illinois valley Community College to pick up an Associate, and while in school there I played a year of baseball. I transferred into the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where due to lack of time for gaming competition I picked up competitive arguing instead. That’s right; I graduated with a degree in Philosophy. During my first year at the big University I had a whole bunch of new experiences, but the most profound and life changing was an encounter with the Prince of Peace. I won’t go over the whole story right now, but if you want to know the details I would be happy to retell the story. To give you a preview, everything changed at FOCUS Conference 2010 in Orlando, Florida.
Filling in the gap between then and now, I have been working to complete the redeeming work of Christ here on Earth, as well as my schoolwork. I became a student leader and entered discipleship with my good friend Mike. A lot of my wisdom is thanks to him. I also became a Knight of Columbus and an active pro-lifer during my last year and a half at UIUC. I headed our schools 40 Days For Life during the Spring '11 semester.
I cannot wait to get out on campus at Ball St. From what I have heard there will be a whole bunch of new challenges but along with them a lot more grace. Life is composed of experiences and what we put into them in the present. I will be giving it my very best, the good ole’ college try, as they say. With Christ providing the experiences these next couple of years as a FOCUS missionary should be a time to remember.
